People left 'terrified' after man shares snippet of job interview with malfunctioning AI interviewer

What would you do if you realized your interviewer is a robot?

By now, we're sure you've all heard about the trend of artificial intelligence coming for our jobs, and more than just the movies warning about the horrors of AI, there are some real-life worries that rogue robots will soon be taking over the planet. While we don't necessarily mean in a murderous rampage like Terminator, that hasn't stopped concerns that it will soon be quicker and cheaper to replace us flesh and blood humans with robots.

Former Microsoft boss Bill Gates has already warned that only three jobs will be safe from AI, while customer service representatives, data analysts, and even writers (oh, great) are some of those most at risk of losing their jobs. Gates has predicted that AI could be a good way to reduce our working week to just two days, but until we get to a time when this is actually viable, we'll still need to keep applying for jobs to get the bills paid.

We've already seen one man use AI to his advantage to apply for 1,000 jobs in his sleep, but what about flipping things around the other way? Interviews can be scary enough, and while we've long-since moved on from having to attend them in person thanks to the likes of Zoom, it's still nice to see a friendly face to try and ease those nerves.

So, just imagine jumping into a job interview and being faced with an AI interviewer. If that wasn't enough, how about them starting to malfunction as you're left there watching your dream job slip away?

Posting over on TikTok, petobsessed777 shared a video where he's faced with an AI interviewer during a Zoom call. The blond-haired avatar spouts complete nonsense as the OP watches on with a terrified look on his face.

One angry user wrote: "On a serious note, being interviewed by an AI bot instead of an actual person is so beyond insulting and is a great sign that company is never to be trusted."

Another added: "When it starts to sound genuinely distressed like it's realizing it's trapped in its own algorithm."

A third said: "This is the second TikTok I've had of an AI interview in 5 minutes. The other one was repeating PILATES."

Elsewhere on the platform, TikToker Leo Humphries explained his own AI experience after he shared a similar video with Newsweek. Discussing his AI headache, Humphries told the outlet: "At first, I wasn't sure how to feel. I think in the moment I just felt a sense of disappointment."

Having spoken to multiple 'real' people during the hiring process, Humphries said he was shocked to be faced with an AI interviewer at this crucial stage: "When I reached the interview stage, I was surprised to find out that the interviewer was actually an AI.

"I wasn't given too much explanation beforehand, so it definitely caught me off guard. At first, I wasn't sure how to feel. I think in the moment I just felt a sense of disappointment."

Saying that while he understands it's efficient and can help companies process a lot of candidates quickly, Humphries concluded: "On the other hand, it raises questions about personal connection, fairness, and how well AI can truly evaluate someone's qualifications and personality. It definitely made me wonder how widespread this practice might become."

There are numerous examples of these videos on TikTok, and while it seems some of them are purposefully creating 'fake' interviews for clout, there are genuine candidates out there who are being subjected to glitchy AI interviewers.
